Missing important work messages or meeting alerts? Here is how to get Microsoft Teams notifications back on track on your Android phone.
In the era of remote and hybrid work, Microsoft Teams is your lifeline. It is how you know when a meeting starts, when a deadline shifts, or when your boss needs a quick answer. So, when notifications stop working on your Android device, it isn’t just an annoyance—it’s a genuine productivity panic.
If you are opening the app only to find you missed three urgent mentions and a scheduled call, you aren’t alone. Android’s aggressive battery management and Teams’ complex settings often clash.
Here are four ways to troubleshoot and fix Microsoft Teams notifications on Android.
1. Check System-Level Notification Permissions
Before diving into the app itself, ensure your phone hasn’t blocked Teams at the door. Android updates or accidental toggles can sometimes revoke notification permissions for specific apps.
- Open your device Settings.
- Tap on Apps (or Apps & notifications).
- Find and tap Teams in the list.
- Tap on Notifications.
- Ensure the master toggle for All Teams notifications is turned On.
Tip: Scroll through the specific categories below the master toggle. Ensure that vital alerts like Chats, Incoming calls, and Mentions are also toggled on.
2. Review In-App Notification Settings & Quiet Time
Microsoft Teams has its own internal notification logic that can override your system settings. The most common culprit is the “Quiet Time” feature, which automatically silences your phone during evenings or weekends.
- Open the Microsoft Teams app.
- Tap your Profile picture or initials in the top-left corner.
- Select Notifications.
- Tap During quiet time.
- Check if Quiet hours or Quiet days are active. If they are set incorrectly (e.g., silencing you during the workday), turn them off or adjust the schedule.
While you are in the Notifications menu, also check “When active on desktop.” If this toggle is on, your phone won’t buzz if you have the Teams app open on your computer. Turn this Off if you want alerts on your phone regardless of your PC status.
3. Disable Battery Optimization for Teams
Modern Android versions (especially on Samsung, Pixel, and Xiaomi devices) are aggressive about saving battery. They often “kill” apps running in the background to save juice, which stops push notifications from coming through instantly.
You need to tell your phone that Teams is essential:
- Long-press the Teams icon and tap the “i” (App Info) button.
- Tap on Battery (or App battery usage).
- Change the setting from Optimized to Unrestricted.
This allows Teams to run freely in the background, ensuring you get notified the second a message is sent, rather than when you next unlock your phone.
4. Clear the App Cache
If settings and permissions are correct but notifications are still broken, corrupt temporary files might be to blame. Clearing the cache refreshes the app without deleting your chats or login details.
- Open Settings > Apps > Teams.
- Tap on Storage & cache.
- Tap the Clear cache button (bottom right or center).
- Restart your phone to ensure the changes take effect.
If this doesn’t work, you may need to take the nuclear option: uninstall the app, restart your phone, and download a fresh copy from the Google Play Store.
